I had a very enjoyable evening at the Faeries Ball last night despite the fact that when I arrived warm beer was just being added to the cooler and that I was at least 20 years older then most people there - LOL!
The In the House Festival group offered a very eclectic and entertaining array of performances throughout the evening However, due to the venue's layout, viewing was difficult at times.
The party was held at the Side Show Studios (no web site) and was well attended: I had never seen so many Faerie wings before! But I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the venue. It is in dire need of a paint job, especially the ceiling, and repairs to the floors where in some areas presented a serious trip hazard liability: I stumble on the irregular floor surface and witness many others do the same.
There was also a cut piece of rebar sticking out of the floor that I almost sat on! And had a Fire Marshal entered the venue he would of most likely shut the party down for a lack of any visible Fire Exit Signs.
But the most challenging aspect of the venue is the fact that it only has one toilet!!! This resulted in long lines and uncomfortable waiting periods.
I look forward to attending the In the House Festival group's Haunted House later this month but I doubt I would attend another event at the Side Show Studio venue - ok I am an old fart and would like greater seating options and more toilets!

Looks like there is a new Walking Tour in Burnaby that takes place for one day only on October 22 at the Burnaby Lake Nature House 4519 Piper Ave: Click Here for details.
There is a new Halloween Superstore in town called "Boo Halloween Superstore" and they are a division of Party Packagers. http://www.partypackagers.com/
There are locations in Victoria, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond and Surrey and WOW what a selection at fantastic prices. There is everything from decor, costumes, masks, makeup, accessories, and Halloween party supplies and treats. If you are not shopping online at my theme stores than definitely make these guys your first stop when shopping for Halloween.

I went and visited Wallmart to see what they had in stock for Halloween.. nothing but crap. I went to Zellers to see what they had for Halloween, nothing but crap. I went to Superstore and it was crap with one exception, they had a full size animated Butler for $130. HomeSense had nothing worth mentioning but surprisingly Garden Works had a few interesting decor nick knacks.
I also went and checked out Vancouver Costumes Merchant of Dream on Commercial Drive who has by far the largest collection of quality venetian and eye masks, imported and hand made from around the world and one should definately go and check that out!

I went and visited the Party Bazar's new location and I must say the parking is a heck of lot better but the prices sure ain't! While they do have an extensive inventory of prepackaged costumes and accessories, they are still perhaps the most expensive place to shop for Halloween related items in the Greater Vancouver Area. Tomorrow (Saturday September 24) is their 6th Annual Halloween Preview - Details Here

Value Village has their Halloween inventory out and there are some excellent deals but best go soon before they sell out!
I stopped into a couple of Shoppers Drugmarts and I am once again disappointed with their Halloween merchandise. Howver they do have a small styrofoam skull face for only $10 that isn't too bad but thats it!

I for one will be heading to the Metrotown store (Station Square) to check it out!!

This means that there are now a total of 6 Spirit Halloween Stores in the Greater Vancouver Area: Burnaby, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey, Abbostford, and Langley. Dollar stores are now stocking their shelves with Halloween inventory and while most of it is shameful crap, look closely and one can find a gem or two... I found quality Lorgnette Masks for only $2 each!

The 2011 Vancouver Zombie walk was a hoot! Great turn out, great zombie costumes, great role playing. However, there needs to be a better understanding of Zombie Etiquette: DO NOT SMEAR BLOOD ON ANY VEHILCES OR OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY!!

Vancouver Halloween is now officially endorsing Calgary to host the 2012 Canadian Haunted Attractions Conference. Now I will admit I am voting purely due to the fact that Calgary is a lot closer to us West Coast folks and is a quick one hour flight away so click on this LINK and "Like" their facebook page!
The Britannia Mine Museum is considering hosting a Halloween Attraction this year and while I see a huge potential for a spectacular haunt at their location, their biggest challenge is also their location... I look forward to hearing from them soon as to whether or not their will proceed with these plans.
